Thinking Straight: Before Starting a New Relationship…Pt II

Who Am I?  What Is My Purpose?

At some point in time, everyone of us has asked these questions.  We all need to understand who we really are and why we were created.

The answers to these and other questions can only come from our creator, Jesus.  Genesis 1:26 – 28 says that we were created in the image and likeness of God.  We were given dominion over the fish of the sea, birds in the air, cattle, and everything that creeps upon the earth.

This passage of scripture gives us a huge clue about our identity.  God’s original intent for mankind was that we would be sons of God and kings in the earth.

I don’t know if you have ever given this much thought.  You were created in His image and given dominion in the earth. Kings have lawful dominion over various territories.  They are responsible for the oversight of specific regions/countries.  Believe it or not, you were created by God to reign as a king in the earth.  The Lord sees you as a king in training.  He has confidence in your ability to complete the training so that you will be able to govern well the affairs in the territory or sphere of influence God has assigned you to.  God is preparing you as you submit daily to the discipline and training of the Holy Spirit.

Let’s look at the image of God.  You often see children who resemble their parents.  They may even have similar gifts, mannerisms, facial features, etc. that remind you of their parents.   Likewise, St John 1:12 says “But as many as received Him, (Jesus) to them He gave power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”

What Does This Have to Do With Your Identity?

I am so thrilled that you asked this question!  As a son (daughter) of God, you carry the Father’s attributes, his wisdom, his heart, his strength, his character etc.  Most people are in awe of God because of who He is and what He can do.  You are a “chip off the old block” my friend.  Yes it is in seed form but it is developed as you spend time studying the Word of God, applying the Word to your life, praying, rejoicing and enjoying your relationship with Jesus.

People may or may not respect you.  They may not recognize the expensive, unrefined gold and hidden treasures that Jesus put on the inside of you.  Their lack of vision or low self esteem may keep them from perceiving and even honoring the unique abilities you possess.   They may just tolerate you right now.  They may not celebrate you yet but YOU must begin to celebrate the person God has created you to be.  After all, the important thing is what you think of yourself. The Bible says: “As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”  At this point, you may not even understand your worth or your purpose. By faith though, you can begin to rejoice knowing that God does not make “junk” and He will perfect that which concerns you.  He will not forsake the work of His own hands (Psalm 138:8).

Psalm 139:13 Amplified version says” You did form my inward parts; You did knit me together in my mother’s womb.  Verse 14 says ( KJV) “I will praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are your works and that my soul knows right well.” Just take a moment and cast off every negative thought you have about yourself.  Begin to rejoice about your wonderful destiny and the phenomenal miracles of His love and grace that you have experienced and will experience in the future.  Praise Him until every lie of the enemy concerning your identity is released from your mind.

Let go of past failures and disappointments and receive the refreshing that the Spirit of God is sending to you.

WHAT IS MY PURPOSE?

Have you ever felt like you could “fly to the moon” after talking to certain people?  Have you ever been inspired, encouraged and/or challenged after talking to certain individuals?  If you notice, there are specific people in your life that are sent to “cheer you on”.  Some may even be sent to correct you.  You may not talk to them everyday.  You may not even know them personally but over a period of time, you begin to recognize the voice of wisdom and encouragement that God has given them just for you.

Do you have certain people in your life who cause you to reach for new plateaus, dream bigger dreams and jump over hurdles?  No matter what obstacle you may face, you just know, when you talk/listen to this (these) person(s), something awesome is going to take place.  New strategies and ideas emerge.  Creativity begins to flow again; you are networked with the right people and faith arises in your heart.  I believe that these individuals have been assigned to you by God, to encourage you as you pursue your purpose.

Healthy relationships are mutually beneficial and usually produce a high level synergy!  Are the relationships in your life taking you to new levels?  Who are the people that are making a positive impact in your life?  Who are you encouraging?  Make a note of these individuals.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work…Right???

Yes, teamwork does makes the dream work when you have the right team doing the right things at the right time.  A perfect example of this is found in Genesis 11:6 where the children of Israel began building a tower to Heaven.  The scripture speaks of  how the people were one and had one language.  God saw the unity and said “Nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.”

Did you hear that?  God is not a respector of persons.  Nothing shall be impossible to you either when you submit to the will of God for your life and then begin to build and nurture the “God ordained” relationships He has for you in the Earth.  We will discuss this process in a future blog.

Developing the right relationships in your life will strengthen you and propel you into your purpose.  Don’t sabotage your success by neglecting your relationship with Jesus.  Like a scorned spouse, He is jealous over you. Matthew 6:33 says “Seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all of these (other) things will be added unto you.”  Your success will be a by-product of your relationship with Jesus and your willingness to  obey the Word of God.

The Amplified version of Proverbs 16:3 says “Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.”

When we truly surrender our hearts, will and desires to the Father, He causes our thoughts to become agreeable to His will.  In other words, He causes us to want what He wants, love what He loves and hate what He hates.  Because our thoughts become aligned with His will, our plans are established and they succeed according to His Word.

Next week we will talk more about who we are, our purpose and begin to look at the importance of VISION.  Until then,I encourage you to meditate on these thoughts and begin to perceive yourself as the king God created you to be.  Shalom.
