Thinking Straight: Before Starting a New Relationship…Pt 1

In this series of articles, we will begin to discuss some issues that we should consider before beginning any new relationship whether it is business or personal.  While my book “To Have And To Hold…Or Not?”  focuses more on the numerous issues surrounding individuals who are dating and contemplating marriage, these articles will address questions that will help you to understand in greater detail, who you are.

Amos 3:3 says “How can two people walk together except they agree?”.

How can you understand the relationships you need in your life when you don’t know your purpose?  How can you know your purpose when you have not spent time with your Creator?

I believe most people would agree that LIFE happens in the “FAST LANE”.  There is so much going on in the world; we are often pulled in numerous directions all at the same time.  In our attempts to handle ridiculous schedules, we often neglect the time we need to focus our attention on our own development, understanding who we are and where we are headed.  It is continuously necessary to remove distractions, unnecessary commitments and activities that are “time stealers” out of our lives so that we can discover who we have become and compare it to who we were created to be.

Malachi 3:6 lets us know that  God does not change His mind.  He has not changed His mind about your purpose.  It is not too late for YOU to change and begin to align yourself with the will of God for your life.  His will for you is expressed throughout the Bible.  It is in His will, that you will find the joy for living. Remember, in my previous blog, “Where Is Your Footprint?”, we talked about how Jeremiah was able to know the specific calling on his life and so can you!  You can discover the fulfillment that only comes from beginning and maintaining a vibrant relationship with your maker, Jesus.  From this pivotal relationship, you will understand in a greater measure,  your passion and your call.  The awesome revelation that flows out of  your relationship with the Lord will give you insight into the “God ordained” relationships that are needed in the various stages of your life for the manifestation of YOUR destiny.

It is time to let passivity go! To move from the passenger’s seat of your life to the driver’s  seat, you will need to take control of your thoughts and your schedule.  You must begin to seriously contemplate the principles that we will be discussing over the next few weeks.

Before we begin discussions about relationships, we need to fully understand whose we are, who we are, the gifts and abilities we possess, deficiencies we need to address, where we are headed, and how we will get there?  What does your “there” actually look like?  Relationships require an investment of your time and resources including your relationship with the Lord.  Are you willing to develop the relationships that are needed for the fulfillment of your destiny?  The first and most critical relationship that you must establish and/or revitalize is with Jesus Christ.  YOU are going to absolutely LOVE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM!!!

Some people have no vision or plans for the future.  Perhaps they have never taken the time to develop their belief/faith to the point where they could accomplish their dream.  As mentioned in my book, “Success and greatness do not happen by accident.  It is the result of deliberate planning and the proper execution of those plans.” Courage and Strong faith do not become a part of your life without spending the proper time in prayer and in the study of the Word of God.  Your faith in God and what He has called you to do, will strengthen your resolve and give you the “winning mindset”so that you will NEVER QUIT! Why would you quit, when the wisest person and the champion of the universe is on your team?

Many people have given up on the idea that their dreams can become a reality.  Perhaps the obstacles have seemed so overwhelming that they have become paralyzed by the fear of failure.  They simply operate in “crisis mode” doing whatever is convenient or advantageous for the moment.  Others just watch TV and watch their lives take whatever turns come to them.  This is not who you were created to be neither is this the type of person that you want to pursue a relationship with.  To move forward, you will need to sever the negative relationships in your life.  I am not encouraging divorce.  For more information on this topic, read my book.

For those of you who are ready to move forward, this blog is for you! Like many of us, you have  accomplished much but are ready to move to higher levels.  We are going to begin a journey of discovering who we are in this season of our lives.  Psalm 115: 14 says “The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.”  I am excited about the greater revelation that we will all receive as we journey together.  Stay tuned to this blog!
